Tree Swallow

A family of Tree Swallows has claimed my brothers Blue Bird box as home for this nesting season. Last evening, as my wife and I were taking our evening walk, she noticed this bird sitting on the fence post above the nest box. I began taking photographs and slowly approaching. The swallow allowed me to come within about ten feet before gracefully flying away.

Nice close up shot. I love looking at birds. I've been trying to get a hummingbird photo but haven't been able to.

I posted a dog photo today.

Great composition. Beautiful coloring and I like all the textures on the post against the smoothness of the bird.

This is gorgeous! They're such pretty birds. While out west, we saw swallows (not tree, but a different variety) and we ended up calling them "fighter jet" birds because they were doing daredevil stunts at extremely high rates of speed over and around sheer cliff faces. You could hear the sounds of their wings quite distinctly and they didn't mind buzzing real close to us!
