To the small fish, the Great Blue Heron is public enemy number one. This ranking also holds true for the fish farmer, who raises his fish in shallow ponds.
For the wildlife photographer the Great Blue Heron bird is a study in both awkwardness and grace.

I have a Blue Heron who comes to my pond almost every day. Do you think I can get a decent shot of it??? NOPE! It is SO skittish, as soon as I am in sight, it takes off. Therefore, I realize how truly amazing THIS fantastic shot of yours is, my friend. I bow to you - this is truly awesome!

I was lucky enough to spot two crows mobbing an Heron a few years ago... I noticed the birds and at first though the heron was one of our larger hawks, but soon realised it was an Heron. There were quite high up which again I'd never seen an Heron. The flying display the big awkward bird put on was second to none... I was really impressed by the dives at speed and the twist and turns it was doing. It really did need to be seen to be believed. All this was taking place high above a busy town and I do not think anyone else noticed. I have never thought them awkward since.. ha!
