Female Hooded Merganser

Continuing on with my Florida Bird Series; we encountered a pair of Female Hooded Mergansers one morning. I don’t know where the boys were hanging out as the two females were all we sighted.

As I continue to work through the birds I photographed on this trip I am astounded at the variety of species represented around Lake Parker. I visited this lake three mornings and one evening. Here at home in Pennsylvania I believe I could pursue birds for an entire year and still not photograph as many different species as I did at Lake Parker in about twelve hours of shooting.

Cool hairdo!

You know, I usually take my camera with me on my evening walk, but today I didn't. And wouldn't you know, I saw a pair of wood ducks, and a pair of green-winged teal in one of the stormwater ponds, where I've only ever seen mallards before. It just figures!

Ash,
I know what you mean, the other evening while checking the cows I ran into a pair of woodducks that gave me a picture perfect shot, but you know it, no camera :)

It happens to all of us.

I know that you really enjoy shooting over there at Lake Parker.

Nice green to the color of the water in this image.

What an odd looking critter> I wonder how it evolved to look like this, I imagine a mating ritual.

This is another exceptional shot. I also read the comments and found them so familiar. I try to take at least one camera with me but sometimes I don't and that is when I am surprised. I have even driven back home, got the camera and driven back to the same spot only to see what I was anticipating still being there was no where in sight.

Salty: We have a group of black colored Mergansers that work the lake I fish. They are very aggresive at getting fish. This one is very good looking.
I'm sure I'll get some pictures if the lake ever melts.
