Ruddy Duck Hens

A couple of weeks ago I encountered a Ruddy Duck drake while visiting the lake and featured him on an earlier post. This past Saturday I bumped into a flock of hens. I don’t know if the hens and drakes migrate at different times or if this is purely coincidence.

A heavy coating of pollen along with the lighting angle created the unusual appearance of the water’s surface shown in this image.

Hi Salty I have enjoyed playing catchup again on your blog, I am not being as regular on mine as I need to be, I just neeed a boot in the butt to get me going LOL.

Some great shots and I love the words/stories/explanations that you back the photos up with.

Nice ducks, Salty. I never get to see anything but Mallards and some odd looking hens.

I like how the pollon changes the texture of the water.... I wonder if the Drake as had is fun and flew off..

Salty: I agree with Abe. I don't know ducks real well but the Mallards are the easiest to capture for certain.

This drew somewhat slow from top down, and my first thought was that the top hen was a person :) Love the water surface texture.
