SkyWatch: Shooting Backward

Eastern Sky at Sunset

A hot humid evening following a thunder shower produced the atmospheric conditions that made this image possible. Soon after the sunset the eastern sky acquired a beautiful muted glow combining blues and reds with many shades between the two extremes.

Don’t forget to check the eastern sky during a spectacular sunset, on occasion it will equal or surpass the main event.

Now, THAT, is great post-sunset color and Alpenglow to boot! I'll bet the scene was just awesome. Very nice photo. That's been my experience with alpenglow as well--more pastel and muted colors, but beautiful none the less.

I need your help, Salty. I'm having a "Name the Newt" contest on my web site for the opportunity to win my September Print of the Month.

I have a post about it on my blog here.

I'd appreciate your getting the word out since I'd like to see a blogger win (but I'm not even a judge in my own contest...)

Thanks, Jim

What a lovely sunset. I was thinking I should check the sky tonight; the next I knew, it was pitch black outside. Thank goodness for folks like you, who capture the beauty!

Very nice photo, Salty. We had something like that happen here yesterday. I got some photos of factories which stunned me. They are nice.
