Camera Critters: Guarding the Kingdom

A mature Whitetail Buck stands at attention like a sovereign of old watching over his realm.

I love spending time in the field watching and photographing whitetails during the rut.

The buck’s appearance with their swollen necks and polished antlers are more impressive at this time of year than any other.

Gone are the lazy days of summer spent feeding and fending off biting insects; ahead lay the difficult days of winter when battling snow and finding sufficient food will be their greatest challenge, but now during the rut all of a buck’s time and energy is devoted to siring next years fawn crop.

My future son-in-law was showing me evidence of male white-tails being in their woods..amazing photos. I don't know much about them at all..so I know a little from both of you...

He is certainly beautiful!

I had an eight point hanging around my yard for awhile. He's hiding I hope.

Thanks for your recent visits and my apologies for not getting back sooner - we have been experiencing power outages again!

Lovely photos ... I browsed back and had a good look. The sapsucker photo is very impressive! The annual deerhunt has been in progress for some time here so the deer are in hiding for now. I hope they are back soon! I have seen does and fawns but never a buck. Perhaps this year!

I love this perspective - especially how you showed the length of the field. And he definitely has an impressive rack!

Salty: What a neat capture of this monster buck. That guy could almost make me want to hunt again.
