Wetland Muskrats

Another highlight of my morning visit to the wetlands was the opportunity to photograph the muskrats.

Muskrats are most active in dim light and during the hours of darkness making photographing them problematic however on this morning they were very active late in the morning.

After watching the muskrats swim about at the other end of the remaining pool I decided to reposition during one of their visits to their den. The move paid off when shortly after getting reset this muskrat surfaced near my position.

The little critter wasn’t overly alarmed by the sound of the cameras shutter but did soon submerge in the muddy water.

I hear a lot about muskrats but can't say I've actually seen one. Great shots, Salty! How lucky you were for just the right conditions and a cooperative critter.

Excellent Coy... it looks like you got it well! They are fascinating animals and probably as hard to get as any water rat! Well done.

If I squint my eyes it almost looks like an alligator!

Nice photos, Coy. We have those little critters here too. Oftentimes we see them in a stock dam in the middle of a pasture - now I wonder where they go in the winter ---

I've heard quite a bit about these fro TV... so it's great to see them here... I also admired you Woodcock pictures... I only see them as they take flight before my big foot stands on them.... it makes me jump I can tell you...

I have a post today about our 'Rights Of Way'... You and your Willard came to mind when I posted this, if you get time could you drop by and let me know what you think... no need to write loads .... a simple 'I'd shot you for trespassing' will do.. ha!
Hope this finds you all well, busy and healthy.

I have not seen a muskrat in a long time. I sometimes would see a groundhog on the bike trail when I used to ride that but since those days, nothing. I am sure they are still out there but I am not so that is my problem. LOL

Salty: Really cool shot of the Muskrat dive. I love the Eagle header, so clear.
