Mourning Doves

While watching a meadow this evening in hopes of photographing rutting whitetails a pair of doves lit in a nearby tree.  I was able to get a dozen or so shots before the doves dropped down into the high grass to feed.  The doves curious expression in this photograph is what made this image stand out above the other shots.

No whitetail rutting activity materialized this evening but these doves more than made up for it by posing for one of the very best mourning dove images in my collection.

This is an exceptional photo! The background color really complements the color of the doves and the dove does look very curious.

Hello Coy, Just stopped in from Elaine's Artic View blog and wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed checking out some previous posts - autumn abstracts was wonderful. I have tried to capture the birds at our backyard feeders, but without the degree of success you have pictured here. I appreciate the explanations too as they do add to the post. I can udnerstand how blogging and then posting comments to blogs can be time-consuming. We also have a blog and you are invited to drop in anytime
http://thefrogandpenguinn.blogspot.com/ and I will be checking your blog too.

Coy this is a beautiful shot you took. I really like the composition, and the softly muted colors in the background. The expression on the Dove's face doesn't hurt either!
