Shooting Snow Birds

White-throated Sparrow

Dark-eyed Junco

Chickadee

A recent snowy afternoon with nothing pressing to do was the perfect time to while away a few hours photographing a few of our winter birds.

Proper exposure can be a little tricky when shooting on snowy backgrounds.  Depending upon the light overexposure may be necessary.  I used +.5 - +1 stops of compensation to capture the images displayed on this post.  When shooting on snow check the camera's LCD and if your images are too dark (as they often will be) dial in some comp. and nail a set of images that you can be proud of.

The images look good. Right now I would take any chance to shoot a few birds, with the camera,of course.Too quiet around these parts.

Your images are just simply beautiful! I've had no feeder birds for a long time. Too nice out I guess! Sure is a change from last winter.

Coy, I love the photo of the White-Throated Sparrow. The clear focus with the out of focus Cardinal in the background creates a very nice effect!

Great shots and they are all beautiful birds. Looks like the same as my backyard birds.

You can certainly be very proud of all those photos! I especially like the first one with the very clear capture of the bird on the left and the hazy red outline of the other bird behind it.

Nice work on these small birds. Nice composition, like the snow fall and the crispness of focus
