Winter's Fire & Ice

Between work, the weather, and winter projects I haven't spent much time behind the camera lately.  Finding time to head out with the camera this afternoon I checked out the ice situation on the local creek.  Recent rains have raised the water level a little more than what it was when the ice originally formed loosening the edges.  Although unsafe to walk out on the re-freezing of the exposed edge has created beautiful ice sculptures.

As the sun dropped below the horizon this evening a fiery glow covered the western sky.  I combined images of the ice and the sunset while using different Photoshop layer blend modes to create the images of "Fire & Ice" for today's post.

Dreaming of Bugling Bulls

It’s that time of year again, the time when the north woods of Pennsylvania Wilds ring with the mating calls of the bull Elk.

Images from previous ruts and a little Photoshop magic depict my current state of mind.

Mountain Monarchs

Recently I visited the 180,000 sq. foot Cabela’s retail location in Kansas City, Kansas. Cabela’s, unlike most retailers do not utilize all available space for retail displays. Each store includes a huge amount of space allocated to the display of mounted specimens of animals and fish. A considerable amount of space is taken up by large aquariums housing many different species of fish. Also featured at each location is a huge bronze. The bronze sculpture, Mountain Monarchs, featured at the Kansas City location is of three large mule deer bucks.

This photograph is a combination of the bronze superimposed upon a Pennsylvania sunset.

Hunting Collage

This is the collage I created of the Pennsylvania buck I harvested this fall. My brother captured the shot of him standing in the field previous to the hunting season. The background is old barn siding.
