Amish Self-Checkout

I was surprised to find this Amish Produce stand unoccupied

Upon closer examination I found this to be a self-service facility

The Amish businessman appears to trust the public with his produce,

But Not His Cash

  2. I think he is a smart man. To some the temptation of money woul be too great. I remember going to a fruit stand in Missouri doing that. I believe they were Amish too.

  3. He's pretty smart - we've had a couple of cases of people stealing the cashboxes from farmstands this summer!

  4. Some of the farms around these parts sell fresh eggs this way with what they call an Honesty Box, you would have to be a low down sort to take advantage but I bet some do.

  5. This reminds me of when I was a little girl. We lived on a farm but didn't have cattle. Our neighbors owned a dairy farm and we would drive over there where they had a 'self-serve' refrigerator. We would enter the building, take out as much milk as we needed (in large glass jars that we would return) and leave the money in a container on the countertop. No chains..nothing to keep it from being stolen. But to my knowledge, it never was. How I long for those sweet days...
