Quick little Nuthatch

This little Nuthatch was very busy hopping up and down the trees.

The Nuthatch was moving quickly but the 400mm on my Canon was just a little quicker :)

  1. You caught him - good job. I only ever heard him laughing at me from the tree line. They have one of the funniest calls. I also read once that they are the only bird that goes down a tree headfirst, so it catches the bugs that the upward-heading woodpeckers miss. So smart!

  5. Nice. I like you photograph of this little nuthatch.

Most of the time I also get shots of them running up or down the tree. But then I put a shepherd's hook next to the tree and between it and the bird feeder and they use that sometimes. Makes for a different shot.

  6. Well shot Salty, I've been trying without much success to get a shot of one of these, we have then over here but they are very wary of folk.
"I must try harder" is what the teacher used to write on my report card... ha! funny how it just popped into my mind.

  7. It looks rather cozy! I know how near impossible they are to photograph (I've tried unsuccessfully - and it was only feeding at my birdfeeder)! I managed a few (slightly blurry) photos of some sandpipers on the beach which took me by surprise this morning. I didn't have a spare second to change my camera's settings! (They are on my blog.) I found you by way of Old Wom Tigley.
