Frosted Pine Needles

Temperatures were hovering just below the freezing point and a heavy fog enveloped Sidling Hill Mountain on Monday. As I reached the summit I was pleased to see the woodland turned into a winter wonderland by the exceedingly heavy frost.

If it were not for photography I probably would not have stopped and noticed the unique pattern the frost had formed. Photography has taught me to “see” as I have never seen before and to notice that which I once would have never given a second glance. In doing so I have found beauty that most will never see.

I expect that those of you who visit my blog feel exactly the same and we all are richer for the experience.

  1. Not snow huh? Just frost. I'm so glad you stopped to make this memory. I agree that without the blogging I wouldn't see so much of life's special wonders.
Thanks for sharing your great pictures with all of us.

We are having summer again here but I think that will change very soon.

  5. Gorgeous picture! I am new to photography, and I agree with you. One thing I am quickly learning is how much more different and beautiful the world can look through the eye of a camera. The everyday things can become works of art.

  6. I agree totally with what you are saying... I see things so differently now.... and I also STOP to see things -- where as in the past I may have just walked on by. Wonderful post!

  7. I enlarged the picture and saw even more beauty... I know exactly where you are coming from... I like to think I've had an eye for nature for a while, but since taking to the camera bug I have been blown away with such sights as these. A dewdrop of rain in the morning, one of Abes bee closeups, the underside of a mushroom.. such places of wonder open up for use lucky enough to want to look and share.
Great post from a man with a great eye

  10. Hey Salty: Found you by way of Irene at Our Piece of the World. I will definitely be back to appreciate your beautiful photography. I'm a fellow Pennsylvanian....southwest area near Pgh. I'm quite interested in wildlife photography, but not very patient. Not a good combination. Happy Thanksgiving!

  11. I'm thankful, Salty, for your photo and its text because both gave me a chance to reflect on what photography means to me. It's great to realize that I share that feeling with others over the world.
