The Pied-billed Grebe is an interesting little bird to watch. It was a little concerned about my presence and would occasionally take evasive action by diving or sinking under the surface, swimming a little way and slowly rising among the lily pads.
I have watched Loons many time perform evasive action by diving and swimming away under water. When Loons dive or resurface they do so relatively quickly but a Pied-billed Grebe’s reappearance is so slow as to barely make a ripple on a calm surface.

Salty: Great shot of the Grebe. Keep them coming.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, I usually get water. LOL Dive, dive, there she is with that camera agian!! thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteI have heard their survival depends on their skills as you described. It is a nice photograph. I like it and the photos you recently took.
ReplyDeleteDo you see my photo of my car going 65 mph?
Never seen or heard of these little fellows before so thank you for sharing them here. I was out a week or two back trying to capture the courting display of out Great Crested Grebe.. alas the female was not to be seen, I went back 3 days running but no luck. I did get a few pictures of the male... I'll post them next week if I can find which disk I put them on.. ha!.

Good image, Dad.
ReplyDeleteThis little guy looks like a prehistoric bird.
I'm not sure if I have seen these little guys. Of course I'm familiar with the Loons out here in Northern British Columbia but I don't think I have ever had the luxury of seeing the Grebe.
ReplyDeleteThe bird pops up like a cork bobber. Great shot. I have enjoyed your series.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a photo of a grebe, just pictures in a field guide. I didn't get to vote in your poll but I'm really enjoying your Florida shots. Only wish we could have some Florida like temps...
ReplyDeleteGreat POV .. and I love the ducks
ReplyDeleteHe's a cute little thing!
