I first observed this nice ten point Tuesday morning when he followed a doe past the Big Meadows Visitor Center and into the meadow shortly after the sun rise.
With the buck positioned to the east I had strong backlighting to contend with. This image was captured when the buck paused for a moment in a spot of shade.
My current banner is of this same buck backlit while the November 11th post is of him under strong direct light. Check out the difference the lighting angles make.

Photography is all about lighting. I was driving back roads from Orlando to Naples earlier today, and was able to catch some scenic spots when the sun slant was just right. Plus the blue sky with just enough clouds didn't hurt either.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading the SNP posts. Wish I could have joined you. Looks like you located a few nice bucks. Blue Skies.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shots of the buck. It truly is amazing how the lighting can change the image. I am still learning the kinks to lighting but am getting there. The only bad thing with nature photography is you don't have all the control when it comes to lighting. I really like the new header image.
ReplyDeleteRobert,
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely correct, photography is ALL about light.
Thanks Ken,
There was no shortage of nice bucks on either of my visits to SNP. The buck encounters on Saturday morning were all brief as the buck were moving rapidly. Each day of wildlife photography is different and during my visit on Tuesday two different ten points gave me extended photo sessions. I’m hoping to make another visit sometime Thanksgiving week.
Christy,
One of the things I love about nature photography is not having control of lighting, one must deal with the hand that nature deals, I find it a challenge. This becomes doubly so when dealing with wildlife as one is not in control of the subject either
Another good shot Salty, I looks like I missed a fine weekend there.
ReplyDeleteHe is crouching down to get a better look at you Salty! Great shot again!
ReplyDeleteI want to pet that nose, but maybe better not. The lighting is great, a really beautiful autumn picture.
