As the day dragged on the temperature began to fall. The young Raccoons cuddled together perhaps in an attempt to stay warm.
I don’t know why the Raccoons decided to spend the day in my small maple tree instead of in a snug den somewhere. I continued to check throughout the evening with my last check at 10PM. At that time one raccoon had descended until it was only about four feet above the ground while the other raccoon was still perched near the top where they had spent the day. I checked again at 5AM and they were gone.

Beautiful animals. I love them but most do not and all for their own valid reasons, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI am guessing the raccoons saw or heard something that kept them in the tree all that time. If I learned anything here while the mother and then her four young ones were here, it is that they will not stay long after the food that brought them there is gone.
I had nothing but the best experiences with these animals but then I was deliberately feeding them, lettering them have all the fresh water they wanted and a place to sleep under my shop at night. It was "Coon Heaven" I guess.
When I shut off the food they were gone and have never come back.
Your photos are just beautiful.
I love your heart in how you capture the souls of these beautiful animals that you shoot with your camera! I have read what you said about the hunting laws in your state and I look into the eyes of the deer that you bring to life with your skill in photography and my heart sinks just think about the poor innocent deer killed for sport! Oh I can't believe that those hunters are killing to survive...
ReplyDelete(((man I hate hunters!!)))
I will be back to see more of your
wonderful captures on film..a true naturegirl
So cute. One just wants to cuddle with them, even if it would not be the smartest thing to do. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYesterday's and todays shots are both great. They are beautiful animals. My mom used to feed them on her back patio and they would come up and peer through the glass door waiting for her to bring them food.
ReplyDeleteHello Coy, I am so glad that I participate in these memes. I get to find some great blogs I may never have found. I love you site and have added you to my blogroll.
ReplyDeleteThe raccoon captures are gorgeous as are the other photos I was able to see in my short visit (of course I REALLY love the bluebird shot). I will be back to see more. Thank you for sharing.
what great pictures of these animals. They look so cute and cuddly... but we all know they are not...LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. There mom may be trying to let them go at this time of the year. It could happen. Or they are already on there own.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time on Camera critters.
Have a great week.
Grammy
funny characters raccoons. I see a lot dead on roads in Fl along with armadillos and opossoms.
ReplyDeleteCute aren't they, but I know you know what a pest they can sometimes be...
ReplyDeleteI had mama and babies in my ceiling at one point -- what an adventure that was... And of course they always come around to check if I rememberd to lock my cat door... They are not easily intimidated...
A great shot! We don't get creatures like that in our back garden.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little bandit!
ReplyDeleteI love these little masked bandits.
ReplyDeleteYou have another beautiful photo here. I would probably be framing one of these.
ReplyDeleteWonder, gone to where?
How sweet! We have racoons around here often, though I haven't seen one for a couple of months. One year during a snowstorm, a racoon decided to rest at the top of one of our oak trees! Later in the day when the snow had stopped, he left. =) I would have thought he would HIDE during the snowstorm! lol
ReplyDeleteWow..you did get to see them up close and personal. Here in NY state we have such a problem with raccoon rabies that people are very afraid of any raccoons, fox or bats..
ReplyDeleteSalty: Excellant captures, this is truely a winner. Maybe they decided to pose for you is all.
ReplyDeleteTerrific shots of the past few days. I like your technique for highlighting them in the pictures.
ReplyDeleteThat was a treat to photograph them so closely. Used to see raccoons raiding the garbage cans at our other house. Haven't seen any here, though the neighbors said they have seen opposom in the backyard trees.
What an amazing world we live in.
I've really been enjoying your raccoon photos!
ReplyDeleteVery cute all cuddled up. It always makes me appreciate our woodstove when I see animals all huddled up outside. They need a little fireplace. :)
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm one of your biggest fans, right? I love these raccoon photos - they are adorable and outstanding!
