Too Big to Bite

Autumn brings with it a bountiful wildlife buffet. An apple tree situated in an old fence row is now a popular hangout for the local whitetails as they periodically check for the latest drops. The buck pictured here has found one that is giving him a bit of difficulty.

Freezing the action in still photos captured his comical facial expressions. Soon he changed tactics and anchored the apple on the ground where he broke it into two manageably pieces with his front teeth.

  2. Great images Salty....
When I bred ferrets, once in a while to give them something to do and a bit of exercise I would place eggs in their run.... I had one male that was able to pick a small egg up in his mouth.. and he would go to the 'clean' corner of the run to press the shell into the corner. I was reminded of that ferret by this post.
At times watching animals go about their business is comical

My Mom has called me a couple of times and told me she has a twelve point buck eating the apples under her tree.

  6. Love these photos. I'm back after 10 days away or so. Saw a similar situation in Reno where the Honkers were trying to eat crabapples whole. It was pretty funny.
