Whitetail Fight

The Whitetail rut is in full swing now and bucks are easier than ever to see as they search for willing does. I photographed the following series this morning of a pair of young bucks engaged in a contest of strength and skill.

Upon reviewing my images I found that the fight had lasted ten minutes during which I had shot over 160 images. The incident ended with the larger buck slowly following the smaller as he relinquished the field.

  7. Thanks everyone for your nice comments.

    Chris,
Action shooting comes at a price, most of the shots get the delete treatment because of usual action-shot problems; focus, unacceptable motion blur, poor comp as the subjects move etc. Of the original shots of this encounter there was less than a dozen that I felt were of good enough quality & unique enough to deserve processing. Thanks for asking.

  9. I have only observed this behavior once, and it was in dense cover...How lucky are you to get some great closeups in an open field!
