When this duckling swam past my hiding spot in the wetlands I was surprised at how quickly it had grown. Only a few days earlier I had photographed duckling that were little more than downy puff-balls and here I could see the beginnings of tail feathers.
A short time later this little duckling swam into view with the answer to the unusual growth rate. Obviously there are at least two broods of wood duck duckling present with one brood being a little older then the other.
I have only seen Wood Ducks twice and once was last year in a tree in our yard...not a good idea with the hawks. Never have I seen the young ones and your images are a wonderful share, great images.
ReplyDeleteI have only seen one Wood Duck, it was an adult male. The Ducklings are sure cute little guys. Good work!
ReplyDeleteNothing cuter than ducklings no matter what kind. They grow so quickly. It's been fun watching the goslings in the park close by. Various stages of growth...some beginning to feather while others are little puff balls, just like you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteWonderful documentation. I love these little guys.
ReplyDeleteThe one in the previous post with the startled look is terrific.
The reflection in the first photo is gorgeous.
