Crossing over the mountain between New Market and Luray Virginia this morning we began smelling wood smoke as it filtered into the car. Passing through Page Valley on Rt 211 we noticed a large conflagration on the mountain side to the west. Stopping at a shopping center Willard & I paused for a few minutes and clicked a couple of photographs of the fire. This image was shot at 135mm, ISO500, F6.3, 8 seconds.
Although we located a good number of does along Skyline Drive bucks the really good bucks seemed to have dropped out of sight. Following this buck on foot for a considerable distance I repeatedly tried to set up a shot with the hazy Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. After shooting from a few different positions and moving rapidly to keep up with the moving buck everything finally came together to give me the shot I had visualized. Specs for this shot are 260mm, ISO160, F7.1, 1/320 second.
That's an amazing image of the fire.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the Buck - I really like the background in the photo.
ReplyDeleteI am glad the fire was not last week, I am easily distracted, LOL. Six trips to SNP in the last year and this was a first like this. I hope you still found enough bucks to make the trip worth while. Great shots as always Coy. I am looking forward to more.
ReplyDeleteHope the fire wonbt cause to much damage, the snd images very nice!
ReplyDeleteAwesome Scene! Sometimes we focus on the buck and getting closer, issing out on the beauty of the whole scene! You captured that here! Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMy worst nightmare is to see the woods ignite in flame. I am surrounded by forests and it makes me sad. However, in some areas, it does bring in a good harvest of Huckleberries and mushrooms if there is any positives in it. =)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot of the buck!!
