Five Years and Still Going

Family Farm in HDR

It's hard to believe that it has been five years and 1206 posts since Country Captures began.  At the time I was rediscovering photography with a Canon S2 point & shoot and editing in Photoshop Elements.

With the point & shoot I was limited to shooting landscapes, people, and wild subjects that could be approached very closely.  Within a couple of years I grew dissatisfied with the limitations of the p&s  and took the plunge into the realm of the DSLR with the acquisition of a Canon 30D and never looked back.  This camera along with the Canon 100-400 lens opened the door to shooting wildlife which then became my major focus.  The 30D served me well and after over 200,000 shutter cycles I upgraded to the 60D I am currently shooting along with upgrading my editing software to Photoshop CS5.

Shooting and sharing my images here at Country Captures has been a rewarding experience and I thank each and every one of you for following along with my adventure in digital photography.

  3. Congrats on your five years. You have certainly progressed a long ways in five years. I admire your patience on your photo shoots, and that patience has given you the opportunity to take some exquisite photos. I like what you've been doing with the HDR photos, and the Family Farm is lovely!

I started with a P&S too and have moved up to a Canon Rebel XT. I don't think I will upgrade to a bigger camera because of arthritis issues, but I would like to get a newer Rebel. The 70-300 lens that I have is what really changed my approach to photography though. I just got a new desktop computer to replace the old snail and I am working on upgrading my procedures. That should keep me busy for a while.

  5. Interesting journey; not unlike my own. I went from a Canon Elph to the first Canon Rebel and have gone through all the rebel models up to the 60D that I have now. I won't go for any new Rebels. I am stuck on the Fuji Finepix X100 and hope I can afford it one day before the string runs out.
