Whitetail Family
Seldom does a doe and her fawns line up for a family portrait but when this family did I needed a shorter lens. I like everything about this shot except that the fawns are cropped too tight. A little more body and perhaps some leg would have greatly improved the shot.
The abrupt end of a nursing session causes a fawn to squint as it tries to avoid mom's flailing hooves.
With summer beginning to wain the deer are shedding their thin red summer hair; replacing it with a soft velvety gray hair that in the coming months will grow into a thick warm coat for winter.

Wonderful photos...I'll bet you dont get one like the "squint" again.
ReplyDeleteNice captures Coy.
ReplyDeleteThose are amazing captures.
ReplyDeleteThese images and description are just great.
ReplyDeleteJust fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThat's a harsh way for a mother to treat her offspring;-)
ReplyDeleteLovely shots, Coy. Our Whitetail population here is next to nothing this year. "Blue Tongue" and/or EHD are going around I guess, and there's dead Whitetail Deer everywhere, especially near water. It doesn't seem to affect the Mule Deer. My two Nephews Own "Milk River Outfitters" and there's no Whitetail.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful set Coy. I love your deer photos a lot. If only we had some over here ;-)
ReplyDeleteGood capture!
ReplyDeleteThese are both good shots, but the bottom is very good.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree with you regarding the cropping on the one photo, it 's still an incredible shot. I appreciate the short flash of time that they would hold that pose. You captured it perfectly. The pictures have a softness that is perfect for those pics. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that I'm seeing lots more young (spotted) fawns for this time of the year. Perhaps I never noticed before? Or was the rut a little longer? Usually the young ones are a little more grown by September.
ReplyDeleteThey are so very beautiful. Wonderful reminder of why I collect deer stuff ;-)
