See What the Blizzard Blew In

The snow began to fall early yesterday afternoon and continued until just after noon today. It’s hard to tell just how much we have as the wind that accompanied the storm placed the snow unevenly. While digging out this morning I found spots only a few inches deep and others to my waist. My best guess would be that we received 20”-24”.

With their natural food covered by the fluffy white blanket the birds have been swarming the feeders outside our kitchen window. Directly behind the main feeder is an evergreen tree that provides the birds with good thermal cover and protection from hawks. With the branches heavily laden with snow it also provides a beautiful backdrop for photographs.

It is difficult to get the photographs as sharp as I would like since I must shoot through the window glass at a relatively steep angle, but even with this issue I am pleased with the two cardinal shots posted here.

Even through the window these are excellent!
You even captured the eye of the male which I know isn't an easy task.
A treat to enlarge these. I hope everyone will - beautiful!
Mine’s here: Carletta’s Captures.

Such an amount of snow!
Brilliant photos even though taken through the window. But you have some incredible photos with pass post. Have enjoyed all & certainly touched by some highlighted plights to wildlife.
Take care

Supurb shots! You couldn't ask for a better background. You'll have the snow around for a while so you'll have lots of opportunities for more like these.

These are beautiful snow shots.

We got 12 inches of snow yesterday and it drifted some. Patty had to shovel out spaces for the birds and squirrels and keep the seeds out. She also had to clear a space to get to the pet water dish that is heated so the squirrels and birds could get a drink of water.

I had many chances to sit inside and take some pretty neat pictures of cardinals looking for shelter and something to eat.

I did some of the same yesterday. They were very happy I had the feeders filled. I like them both but composition wise I like the male best.

I hope you are all dug out, we got 22 inches here making me thankful I am on a four day break.

Ouch my back hurts thinking about all that snow. I absolutely loved the bird duo a few post back. Titmice are very rare here in Minnesota.

Fantastic shots Salty... our snow is well gone now.... I don't know how Britain would have coped with such a snowfall...... 10inches and the country nearly stopped.. ha!
Keep well and keep warm my friend.
