A Hint of Spring: Eastern Bluebirds

During my Saturday morning outing I encountered a pair of Eastern Bluebirds cleaning a nest box. At first I thought they were building nest but as I observed their activity I noticed that they were carrying debris from the nest box.

Male Eastern Bluebird

Female Eastern Bluebird

Both Bluebirds were somewhat hesitant to go in the box after I situated myself close by but after a short time they resumed housecleaning.

  2. I cannot wait to see my first bluebird. I wish I could build houses for them but I get way too many house sparrows in my area. I have to go all the way to the next town to get my fix but it is worth it. I look for them every weekend.

Really nice photos. Such sweet little birds.

  4. What a beautiful bird! I am not a birdwatcher myself, but i enjoy their song and having them around when I walk in the woods! And - sometimes I manage to take a picture also! But the birds in your country are so different from my country!
    A nice week to you!

I wish I could get them here. No luck in 45 years.

  7. Are they cleaning out a "regular size" bluebird box? Or is it a box for something else they are using. Entrance hole looks kind of big.

  8. These are birds that I have not seen at my place. Perhaps I need to be a bit more vigilant. Beautiful colors!

  9. Great blue color. I enjoy watching your bird photos. I know very little about birds but I have bought me a book so hopefully I will learn more and even try to "shoot" some :-)
