While taking my evening stroll I spotted this whitetail fawn feeding. As I tried to approach her in the dim light she mistook me for another deer and began heading my way. I slowly got down on hands and knees and crawled to set up a skyline shot for when she came back into view. I also bleated like a deer to increase her interest level. As she came across the skyline I got some OK shots but when she realized she had been duped, the best shot materialized!

That's awesome! Sounds like a fun encounter!
Your giving Steve Erwin some competition! Great shot and a great story!
Thanks Tim, but who is Steve Erwin? Playing with wild fawns this time of year can be quite entertaining. The little guys are old enough to begin straying from their mothers but still small enough that they get worried. It is very common for them to mistake a human in dim light for another deer. Bleating completes the deception and many times they will come running, bleating as they run. As you can see they react quickly when they realize that they were mistaken!
Salty,
Steve Erwin is the world famous Austrailian croc hunter. As you were describing being on your hands and knees I kind of chuckled to myself. It sounded just like something Steve would have done.
Steve would have said "just look at her aint she a bueat!"
This past January we were in San Antonio,Tx and we had stopped about 10:00PM at a Whataburger and my oldest daughter said dad look in that field there are deer. Sure enough there were 15 or 20 of them wondering around an industrial complex. We drove through the complex I took some pictures and they just stood there not moving. It had to be one of the coolest encounters with an animal I have ever had. I didn't have my S2 at the time so the pictures were not great but still pretty cool! What was so amazing this complex was only two blocks from I-10.
It sounds like you live in a very cool place. My grandparents had a 40 acre farm. I use to have a good time stomping through the woods.
You can go to the link Barnabas on my page and read My Grannys Prayer House. My first cousin wrote this article.
Oh my....good thing she wasn't in "heat" that would be very freaky and scary.
Gabby, that is the type of comment I would expect from Gina! Welcome Back.
It is so ironic that we were just talking about Steve Irwin and then the tragic news comes yesterday of his sudden death!
It just lets me know we need to make everyday count!
