The Gypsy Moths are finishing their life cycle. The caterpillars are gone, having metamorphosed into adult moths. I captured this male while he was resting.

Many females busily laying eggs are visible in this photograph. Near the bottom a male searching for a mate can be seen. With the large number of egg cases being deposited the outlook for next year appears bleak.

Good Macros.
Nice shots but I am not a big fan of moths.. I think your woodchuck is much much much cuter!! :)
Interesting shots. I've been seeing them around here, although not this past week because I was on vacation. Thanks for visiting my blog while I was on vacation. I got to post a few photos while I was at the hotel. It was beautiful weather in San Francisco.
Great series Salty. I didn't realize the devestation that the moths did. Your macros tell the whole story.
I also love "Peter Cottontail". That's a gretting card in the making if I ever saw one.
The males look like they have ears. I hope next year isn't as bad as is indicated :(
