Natures Collage

While I was photographing woodland birds a few days ago I paused to take notice of this of this empty hickory nut hull lying upon the forest floor. The warm earthy tones of the empty hull and the fallen leaves combined with the morning sunlight created beauty far beyond that of any one of its individual components.

I’m well aware that this composition violates the “rules” by having the main subject centered. After reviewing all of my shots of this subject I found myself always returning to this one. Of course what are photography rules made for except to be broken :)

Outstanding, Salty! Looks like an autumn photo but with the weather we've been having lately, nothing surprises me.

That's right.

I used to pretend that those empty shells were Pirate ships when I was a little boy.

Pirate ships? I remember there was an old man who actually used these to make ships and they looked pretty neat to me then. Nice photograph.

I love that photographic rules are to be broken. That's why artists are artists. I like this shot with all its earthy tones and the focus on the hull. Enlarging it does bring out the best.

I agree rules are to broken! :) I think you did a great job with this photo perhaps it is the larger leaf on the left and the edge of the leaf on the bottom right corner pointing to the empty shell that balances it all out!!?? Nice shot..
