There is little doubt that the clear blue winter skies encouraged the Eastern Bluebirds to begin spring house cleaning.
I first thought that the bluebirds were building nest but after observing them for a little while I learned quite the opposite for they were arriving at the nest with nothing and departing carrying nesting debris.
Earlier this week I posted photographs of the pair sitting in the bird box opening. One commenter (anonymous) mentioned the entrance hole appeared large for a standard bluebird box. The comment was spot on, the box they are using is constructed for much larger birds however the bluebirds have lain claim. I plan to continue checking on it occasionally to see if they can keep possession throughout the nesting season.

I think they are feeling the warmer weather on the way Coy, so spring cleaning is in order. I love to spend many hours in the bush observing what all these creatures do. It is fascinating.
Wonderful photo of the Bluebird, Ive noticed them doing the same at one of our boxes as well here lately.
At the bird store - you can purchase a "bird guard" (i can't think of the name of it right now) - but it's a tube that makes a smaller entrance and you attach it to the front of the existing hole - and it will prevent the squirrels and larger birds from raiding their nest. Lovely photo!!
That's a good looking bird. It'll be fun to track as the branches fill in too with spring.

When we moved to our current home, I left behind two bluebird boxes because a pair of bluebirds had claimed one, and a pair of swallows claimed the other. I'm thinking it's about time I installed one here. Thanks for sharing this photo. Happy SWF!
