I captured this shot of a Great Blue Heron along the shore of Florida’s Lake Marion. While the heron was wading in the shallows I was tracking it with my camera in hopes of something special occurring worthy of a photograph.
Focusing and firing as the bird lunged into the air, this image was the best of three.
I hesitate to pick one bird over another as my favorite but I believe I have more Great Blue Heron photographs in my archives than that of any other bird.

Great to see a Florida photo on Country Captures! I'd have to agree with you on the Great Blue: it has a wide range. I grew up to be always on the lookout for them when on the creeks of Maryland. So it's a reminder of my Maryland Mudderland whenever I see one down here in the Everglades.
That is a unique shot. The eyes of this Heron look so intent.

Great blues are really neat, even if they're not technically a favorite, they tend to present a photographer with more opportunities to photograph more activities than the average bird does :) I probably have more pictures of them than any other, too, except possibly the little ones that come into Mom's bird feeder (but then they are a captive subject, in a way).
There is something about them isn't there. I will never forget the first time I saw one fly in to land by the pond. And you captured it beautifully...
All I can say is.....wow! what a shot!
You did an excellent job on this Coy!!
Great shot Salty. Looks like he struggles to get a lift-off.
A neat shot Salty, I hope I have some of your luck next week. Winter has been to long so I am heading down for a week and may hook up with Klauss.
Thanks for the kind words you had for the guys I work with at the fire house and whay we do.
Love how his beautiful neck is extended in this shot! Wonderful!
I like the curve of his neck and the way you captured strength and speed in this shot.
WoW great shot.
Salty: I'm so jealous of this neat shot of the flying heron. I wish I knew how.
Salty....this is outstanding! WOW!
Great shot, we get Great Blues here at the Brick Ponds spring through fall.
Nice focus on the the Heron's head!
I am with you, they are great to photograph. I think I have learned flight photos using them. Still capture them better than anything else in flight.
