As spring approaches I always anticipate seeing the first Grackles arrive. The Grackle flocks usually begin arriving here in early to mid March. Often my first sightings are of Grackles perched in trees along watercourses. With this in mind I have been watching the treetops along the creeks during my daily commute hoping for an early sighting.
I captured this image one foggy morning during my February 2008 visit to Florida’s Lake Parker.

Great capture of the grackle w/ his beak open. I can almost hear him singing over here in michigan!
Great picture of the grackle. I find it so difficult to photograph black birds so am impressed with how sharp it looks in your photo.
Good shot of the Grackle. To be honest, I don't look forward to their arrival. They come in droves, and literally eat up everything - last year they attacked and killed baby sparrows and other birds in my back yard. I watched one jump on a baby bird and start hammering on it with its beak. I know, I know, they're just competing for the food, but I dread their arrival.
Any sign of spring is most welcome. That is a great shot.
Blessings,Ruth
It seems like this is not everybodies favorite bird but after winter there are some birds I also watch out for as then I know spring is on the way.
Sorry for nor visiting lately. I have been scrolling down to catch up. Lovely birds. And the deers are so cute.
I'm starting to look for the spring birds too. I think the extreme cold here is slowing the birds' northward progress. But today was above freezing and tomorrow is supposed to be quite warm (though rainy).
That's a flattering photo of a grackle. He looks good singing. ;-)
Love his open beak and furled tail. Great capture Salty.
