Venturing through the high weeds in the remnants of the path leading to the old swimming hole of my youth I came upon a number of brilliant metallic green Damselflies.
The late evening sunlight lit the scene well as the Damselflies would land on a leaf for a moment, then zoom off only to return to the exact same perch after a few seconds. I didn’t have the tripod or the extension tube with me so I made do shooting handheld at the 400mm lens’s closest focus.

Great shots! What a beautiful green they are, esp. with the afternoon sunshine glow.
The Damselflies are so delicate looking and the coloring is really striking with those green irridescent stripes! They are illuminus! (sp?) Great shots!!...debbie
I've never seen green damselflies, only the neon blue ones. I love the second one in the leaf and the shadow. Its an interesting composition.
After seeing these and Dragonflys on many of the blogs I visit I made a point this year of trying to capture them on my camera... I am pleased to say I managed it... just..
Your pictures always inspire me to try harder.. and for that I am greatful.. you and one or two others I visit have learned me so much... Thank you.
Tom.
Acceptable? who are you kidding Coy, these are super shots my friend.
Beautiful shots. You have some great photos here. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to visiting again.
We have these in our yard because of the creek. Now I'm determined to snap some shots of them. I love that first photo--you really captured that metallic green.
Hi Coy,
Yes this is a macro time, isn't it? I think your pictures are more than acceptable, they are great shots. Macro is not that easy to do my friend, these small things do not stop to move all the time... Much more harder than birds!!!
I never this from such a short distance.
