You Got to Know When to Run!

Just as the lyrics of “The Gambler” explains, You got to know when to hold’em, know when to fold’em, Know when to walk away and know when to run; this young Pennsylvania bull elk seems to have learned the last lesson well!

These two bulls were hanging out with the Winslow Hill herd when Willard & I visited with them on Wednesday. Although much of their day was spent pasturing and lying about absorbing the warming rays of sunshine they occasionally broke up their boredom with some friendly sparring.

Fabulous photos. I was mesmerized looking at the elk, they are such beautiful creatures.
We still have a fair amount of wild deer in our little part of Ontario but sadly many get hit by cars trying to cross the road.

Eileen,
Yes it truly is great that Pa has this small herd of elk. I cannot visit them as much as I would like as they are a 3-3.5 hour drive away.

Montanagirl,
These shots were taken from the viewing areas on Winslow Hill, Elk County Pa. These elk normally do not show any fear of humans. They did seem a little warier than usual in the morning but calmed down as the day progressed.
