Among the various birds visiting our natural feeders this winter the Tufted Titmouse is one of the most common. These little feather bundles are constantly flitting about allowing close-up photography. With the Canon 100-400mm L lens as my primary wildlife lens it is necessary to get very close to capture good feather detail.
Getting close seems to be my only option at this time as this lens’s autofocus will not function with either of Canon’s teleconverters attached to my 30D and my budget will not permit obtaining one of the much coveted super telephotos like the 500-600mm f4’s at this time.
This Titmouse allowed me to make this capture while perched within inches of my lens’s minimum focus distance.

Great shot of the Titmouse, Coy!
Well, you got close enough - what a clear photo.
When we are quiet within, we can move closer to the objects of our attention and to make personal connections and friendship with nature, and ultimately with our own personal nature. In essence, we are a reflection of that which we focus upon. And You focus beautifully on the beauty of Nature, that can found within us all.
Well, it's a great shot - and so sharp!
For a beginner like me, that is an awful lot of camera-speak that I still do not understand. :) But I know enough to recognize a beautiful photo when I see one. Well done!
You did good on this titmouse, Coy. I was just organizing some photos in my Photobucket collection and had to sort out the titmouse photos. Some brought back fond memories. I like these little birds and am always thankful that some of them stay here with me over the winter.
Thanks for the visit and comment on the bumblebees.
Salty: That is a real beauty and they are great singers in the Spring.
A wonderful close up. Your patience won out, this is a great photo.
