Gargoyles & Castles
As out of place as a Model A at Daytona Speedway; the Berkeley Castle sits high on a ridge overlooking Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. Amazingly this castle was built as a summer cottage.
As I passed by this morning I could not resist pausing for a quick shot. After taking a few “tourist type” shots I began looking for an unusual perspective.Click here to learn more about the interesting history of this unusual structure.

Great Castle, interesting shot...
My Gargoyle is knocking up some eggs and bacon whist I do this... but don't tell her I said that.
Both Jane and I are always on the look out for Gargoyles and such like, they make a building much more interesting.
Thanks for you comments at my place, I have left you a reply about my water filled canal ;)
Neat shot! And thanks for the link to the Berkeley Springs website. I definitely want to visit!
I don't know where Berkeley Castle is but my mom came from Summers County around Hinton. My wife of 52 years and I drove down there to escape the raccoons here. We went away for several days so they could get on with their lives and not depend on us for food. Anyway, that drove from the highway back to Hinton made my wife dislike the hills and curves. It was 1945 when I was there last by train. It still looks pretty much the same but I hoped to see what my grandpa Ballengee called, a "mountain puke," but never saw it. We were there in 1945, downtown, and the place was crawling with people and he said the mountains had puked. (I guess the people).
Anyway. Maybe you know where we were in July.
Nice post. Nice blog. Enjoy your photography too.

Very unique subject matter to find here. Wasn't expecting to see this.
Cool one.
This looks like a nice place to visit.
This is very cool. I'm getting ready to post about a 'castle' myself. (when I say 'getting ready to' I mean, in a day or so!)
Thanks, Salty, for posting a link to the history of this castle! Before I read what you had written, my first thought was that it looked like something I had seen in Ireland.
Hey Salty....when you have a moment could you email me (candlelibra@yahoo.com) and walk me through how to do the heading at the top of the blog? I can't seem to get the words across the pic that way! Thanks!
pretty glance
