SkyWatch Friday, Eclipse

Perhaps the Total Lunar Eclipse will be the most frequently posted subject today but I will risk being showed up by those of you who are more accomplished shutter bugs.

With a brisk wind blowing and the thermometer hovering at 18deg F (-8C) I was very pleased to capture this image.

I am extremely pleased to have had this photographic opportunity. It snowed here all day and I felt certain that this event would transpire behind a cover of clouds. Thankfully the skies began to clear at dusk and by 9:00pm this moon was shining brightly in a cloudless sky, perfect for the approaching show!

A very powerful nocturnal. And the way you framed the moon gives some nice balance to the photo.

I'm a starter but guess it's a lot of fun the Sky Watch club.

Congratulations on capturing that shot. My little camera couldn't handle the darkness and street lights so I'm happy to see what others got instead.
That color is amazing.

I am seeing a lot of these eclipse pictures. Looks like I was the only one who slept through it.

Spectacular. Great moon shot.

The photos of the cattail bloom looked a lot like my dog. He's that same color and sheds much the same way.

Well, I missed it because of a nap I didn't wake up in time for it. . . although I did get a partial red moon when it was almost over BUT didn't use it for today's entry. Come see what I did choose.

Hi Salty,
That's a great shot! I don't think we got much of a view of the eclipse here in the UK, it was too cloudy. So what's new,lol

Well captured Salty..
I hope to see a few more of these today.
I set my alarm, filled a flask and had all my clothing laid out ready. The tripod had be set up for two nights and I was ready for the show and the chance to capture it.. For the first time in a few weeks we had a thick cloud cover... I was gutted.
I'm so glad that others managed it and are now sharing.

Very nice! I witnessed the eclipse but never even thought to photograph it. Silly me!

Nothing to be ashamed of there - nice shot. Much better than mine: I set up the tripod, snapped a couple of test shots to try to get the settings correct, and then the batteries died! Alas, no more charged so thus ended my first lunar eclipse attempt. The ones that I did get off were all too dark. Oh well. Try again in two years. :)

Very pretty!

I got some really nice shots of the LAST lunar eclipse, but this time we were all clouded over! :(

Great shot! Happy Friday!

I started to run outside, but realized that my camera probably would not get much of a photo. So, I stayed warm inside and watched from my window.

You definitely were able to capture a spectacular photo! Congratulations.

well done, very nice shot. I found it difficult as the shadow grew and the light diminished, by that time the moon was almost setting and moving fast. it was a toss up between faster shutter speed and higher iso, giving more grain, or slow shutter speed and the movement of the moon causing blurr! I admire your rugged determination, I can't even IMAGINE -18 degrees!!! We were whining because it was about 18 degrees C!!!

Irene said...

Wow, you got a wonderful shot! I took a few pics as well, but only during the eclipse, not at the end. It was about 10 degrees here! But looking back, I should have braved it for a few minutes to try to get that shot!

Awesome shot, you did good :)

What a nice picture. We weren't able to see the eclipse in our area due to overcast skies. Thanks for sharing your view.

I'm very glad for all the moon shots. Our pathetic little camera was not up to the challenge! lol

Your profile reminded me of the days when I began on an old Fujica.

I watched it thru an upstairs window...nice and warm. It was a bit too frigid for me...I'm such a sissy! Your photo is fabulous, Salty.

So glad to see you were able to get some shots. I tried with my dinky camera and was unsuccessful! I highly enjoyed getting to watch it the other night and was glad I got to see as much as I did before the clouds rolled in on me.

WOW, thats all I can say. I think I am actually drooling a bit over this capture. There were too many clouds here to even see it. Makes me wish I was in PA!
