Beautiful White Death Stalks the Marshes

Silent as a ghost, a Great Egret stalks the marsh

And captures its prey with a quick strike

To us the great egret is a creature of beauty and grace; for its prey it is their worst nightmare came true.

The above images were captured at the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands at Viera

I love your photos!
Would it be possible for you to add the camera specs used for each shot you post? It would be most helpful for us amateur photographers.

I literally "stumbled" onto your blog via blogger and want to let you know you are an amazing photographer! I hope one day to have a fraction of your skill.

Beautiful! We have herons, but no egrets. At least, not that I'm aware of. Wonderful photos!

Jackie, thanks for your comment.

Most of my photos are shot with a Canon 60D while some are shot with my older 30D which I utilize as my second camera in the field. Most of my wildlife shots are made with either a Canon 100-400 F5.6 IS L lens or a Canon 600 F4 IS L. Usually I shoot the lenses with apertures wide open to minimize depth of field with the camera set on aperture priority using the lowest ISO setting that will give sufficient shutter speed to shoot sharp images of the given subject. Seldom do I shoot either of these lenses without a tripod.
