Spring Lilacs

Lilac in Bloom

Many newer homes as well as most old ones have a Lilac bush growing among their landscaping plants. The first shot is of the bush growing along my driveway with the second shot taken at our next door neighbor’s home.

Speaking with our neighbor I learned that this bush was planted by his wife’s grandmother who had passed away nearly eighty years ago. I don’t know what the lifespan of these fragrant flowering bushes is but I do know that I look forward each spring to enjoying their beauty while inhaling their sweet scent that permeates the air.

I have been thinking I need a lilac bush, seeing them in bloom does that to me. The color of this one is so pretty.

Gorgeous shots. I have a couple of bushes, but they have not even put on leaves yet, so it will be a good while before I get blooms. Last year the moose ate most of the buds over the winter so I didn't have many flowers. Last fall we wrapped the bushes with landscape fabric, so I have hopes that I will see more blooms this year.

A friend of ours lived at a old house in Montana that had lilac trees that were huge. A lilac bush can grow to 10 feet tall but a lilac tree can be 30 feet tall and the lifespan is about 100 years. Amazing!

Fantastic top photo with the sun behind the lilac flower. Ours are in bud and should open by next week. I have two dwarf lilacs planted below the kitchen window and just love the scent when they're in bloom.

Wow! You're quite ahead of us in the west with your blooming lilacs. Mine are nowhere near ready to bloom. A few years ago I took shoots of my very old plant and stuck them into the ground in other locations of the yard. They look as if they've survived the winter. I can't wait for them to bloom.

Oh, the lighting in that first shot is just divine! I love the sweet fragrance of lilacs, but we don't have any at this house. Hmm, I think I need to find a place for one.

They are so beautiful!!! You definitely did them justice in your photos.

Lilacs severely aggrevate my aunt's allergies. So, when my dad was young, and he'd get into a disagreement with his sister, he'd go pick lilacs "for my grandma". Ha! Sibling squabbles!

I Love Lilacs, and everyone around me has them. Mine are still too young to bloom, yet next year, I am so hoping, for they are looking really healthy. I even have a Japanese variety that is supposed to be glorious~ Enjoyed your images very much Coy~
