For Good Close-ups..... Get Close!

No amount of telephoto lens can make up for the lack of getting close to the subject.  The more distance between the lens and the subject the more haze, air pollutants and mirage will intervene.  The higher the magnification of the lens the more it will magnify these problems as well as the desired subject.  These Chickadees were shot near the minimum focus distance of my 100-400mm lens

Of course getting this close will get you some strange looks :)

Aww, they are really sweet. I think that little fellow is looking at you and wondering about that "beak" on the front of your head. Oh, no, that is your camera lens! ;)

Oh, yeah, nothing beats getting up close and personal, and chickadees are just the bird to let you do it. Fantastic shots!

Excellent sweet and really well done... It is nice when they are just cooperating like this! The second picture is very funny and beautiful!

Remember Coy, "he who gets to close to bird gets white stuff n lens". Great shots, it is not easy getting that close to a bird. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Brad.
